Written vocation

Posted by John Lampard on Saturday, 1 March, 2003 to the disassociated subset

I went to a weekend writing workshop a few weeks ago, conducted a by local freelance writer. Since I haven’t done a whole lot of web design in recent times, I have been thinking about what to do next in terms of vocation and career.

Ideally this “new” direction would involve several of my aptitudes and work preferences. Being creative and able to do my own thing are obviously highly desirable attributes of any new career I embark on. Hmm.

I’m not really sure why I signed up for the writing workshop, I mean I like writing, but does that mean I am any good at it, and good enough after some toning and tuning of these abilities, to make a living from it?

Who knows, these questions are way too big to be answered at this point.

But it may explain the new 97 per cent text content direction that disassociated has taken for the time being. The maxim “use or lose it” applies to writing, so here is where I will be making a start.

And for any budding writers out there, remember developing a good writing discipline is essential, write at least once a day, even if you don’t want to. In short, disassociated will end up as a dumping ground of sorts for the writing I didn’t want to write!
