disassociated R us

Posted by John Lampard on Monday, 30 June, 2003 to the design and art subset

Variations on a theme? There are two other sites in the disassociated franchise that are worth a look. disassociated.org whose designer is named Serp, is a strikingly designed, image intensive affair, reminiscent of a bound volume in look and feel.I love the somewhat nebulous menu system, which rather than being obvious, offers only clues as to where the links point. I always wanted to design a site such ... Read full entry

Illuminating!

Posted by John Lampard on Monday, 30 June, 2003 to the design and art subset

Last week Jose Illenberger launched the latest version of Redberger, Illuminata. Jose is probably better known in web design circles for the previous Redberger version, The Preaching Season. Remember the guitar loop? Preaching Season is still linked from Illuminata, for those wishing to relive the experience.Hmm, Jose is probably a little less known for a much earlier work, The church of Ju, which, when established in 1999, promised ... So, now we can all get some sleep?

Posted by John Lampard on Monday, 30 June, 2003 to the design and art subset

There's good news and there's bad news. disassociated's main style sheet now validates, and I am working through the small list of warnings to gain full compliance to the CSS 2 spec. The bad news being this has been achieved at the expense of Netscape 6 grooviness, which required non standard work arounds to make certain features work, ... Camp Coogee

Posted by John Lampard on Friday, 27 June, 2003 to the events subset

Other ways to spend the winter solstice. The Coogee Camp Out was a shortest day slash longest night of the year event to help increase awareness of the issues facing the people of post war Iraq.Participants pitched their tents in a makeshift campsite on the beachfront at Coogee last Saturday, where they spent the longest night of the year, with the goal ... Paper weight?

Posted by John Lampard on Friday, 27 June, 2003 to the comment subset

On the subject of the winter solstice, and therefore (this year at least) matters Harry Potter, I went and had a quick at the latest tome in the saga. What amazed me was its size; it looked more like the comprehensive version of the Oxford dictionary. Or put another way, a very, very, big brick.Short wonder rumours abounded that J. K. Rowling was experiencing bouts of writer's block, and having ... Read full entry

Cool again

Posted by John Lampard on Friday, 27 June, 2003 to the disassociated subset

A note of thanks to Joe Jenett at Coolstop for the recent mention of disassociated's relaunch. I searched through the Coolstop archives and found the original listing for disassociated... dated July 1999! Man, time flies...

Heard it through the fake vine?

Posted by John Lampard on Wednesday, 25 June, 2003 to the comment subset

Mediocre pun yes, irritating problem nevertheless. And it's always the small things that cause the most annoyance. I am referring to know alls who in fact know nothing.Have you ever met someone who insists that a certain scenario is, in his or her eyes gospel truth, even though they are patently incorrect?Recently a neighbour told me one of my favourite coffee shops in Randwick was about to close. Going, going, ... Read full entry

Design deity reincarnates

Posted by John Lampard on Tuesday, 24 June, 2003 to the design and art subset

The Australian INfront has revamped. No, not redesigned, but they have definitely revamped. And they have also joined the growing posse of design sites now hosted by Media Temple (a.k.a. the temple, for those in da fold).Features of the revamped INfront include a new discussion forum, links directory, crew bios, the launch of the Tomorrow Visual Response, plus (one for the geeks) a super new C M S, ... Hung, drawn and quarted?

Posted by John Lampard on Tuesday, 24 June, 2003 to the disassociated subset

A belated birthday shout out for Pei; happy quarter of a century day for June 21! 25 quite a (another) (psychological) milestone. But then aren't all birthdays some sort of milestone these days?Speaking personally going from 19 to 20 still seemed the biggest jump I've made, despite clocking up other milestones since. How about for you?
