Home again

Posted by John Lampard on Monday, 28 July, 2003 to the design and art subset

I've been tinkering around with disassociated again, this time making behind the scenes changes to the XHTML code. I have been discovering a lot more about cascading style sheets, (which are used to determine disassociated's look or layout) and as a result I have been implementing more and more of their attributes here.I have been using XHTML 1.0 Transitional for a couple of years now, but have been also been ... Good sports

Posted by John Lampard on Monday, 28 July, 2003 to the comment subset

The other day a flyer from the local university came through my mailbox, advertising various recreation courses and social sports. I'll tell you right now that reading the brochure is about as close as I will ever come to anything remotely sporty. However I read with interest the wide variety of activities that are on offer in the programme. You can choose from judo, tae ... Read full entry

You know I know you know

It must have been the most miserable day of winter, a Sunday in late July 2001. I hadn't gone anywhere that day, stayed home and surfed the net pretty much the whole time. Not much point in doing anything else though, since Sydney had been swept by erratically timed squally rain showers since Saturday night.Detecting a slightly longer interval in the gap between southerly powered rain bursts early Sunday evening, ... Groundhog day?

Posted by John Lampard on Thursday, 24 July, 2003 to the comment subset

If it's not annoying it has to be amusing, right? Spam that is. Now most of the unsolicited email that is sent to me never reaches my in box thanks to the efficient filtering software I am using, plus some nifty scripts run by my ISP.However the spammers are becoming craftier. In the old days spam was easy to detect as it was usually addressed to bulk recipients. Filtering software ... Read full entry

Held over reading…

Posted by John Lampard on Monday, 21 July, 2003 to the disassociated subset

It seems to me I spend way too much time stuffing around with the layout and look of disassociated that I really don't put as much effort as I should into actually adding content here. Hopefully things will settle down (if only for a while) once I finish the current revamp here. I think it will be version 2.2 once it arrives.."[update: version 2.2 is now here, you're looking at ... We did it to ourselves

"I earn 40k a year, own one residential, and two investment, properties which are mortgaged to the hilt, and I manage to keep the debt collectors away from the door by keeping my credit cards maxed out. Not to put too fine a point on it, I find my debt to asset ratio keeps me awake at night."Fugitive juggling, the latest article at Jugglezine attempts to offer a ... Read full entry

Another one bites the dust

Posted by John Lampard on Monday, 21 July, 2003 to the technology subset

Further to earlier spiels about Microsoft virtually abandoning production of stand alone web browsers, news has broken that AOL owned Netscape is to be closed down as well. While this situation is somewhat different, that is, hardly anyone uses Netscape anyway, this development is a rather political move. This is all quite a long story, and I may this revisit topic another time. But what are we left with? Opera and ... Read full entry

I know you know I know

Jeremy at Antipixel recently posted some of his Philosophies of Life. All quite sensible if you ask me, but like a few other people, I thought I might add some of my own to the "list".1. Follow your dreams and the rest will fall into place, and,2. Be careful what you wish for... you often get it.While on one hand both these... philosophies ... Read full entry

Digital phone killed the leather bound diary

Posted by John Lampard on Thursday, 17 July, 2003 to the comment subset

Around October last year, some shops in town were offering discounts on 2003 diaries. Usually you have to wait until say February of the current year before retailers make a move like that, but as 2002 was not a good year for retail, they had started laying on the price discounts earlier than normal. After years of using economy model diaries, I decided to trade up to a slightly more luxurious ... There are stars in the southern sky…

Posted by John Lampard on Tuesday, 15 July, 2003 to the comment subset

...somewhere anyway. Apparently there are now only 60 stars visible in the night sky from central Sydney because of growing light pollution caused by the haphazard and rampant increase of outdoor and street lighting. The Southern Cross constellation, whose status is central to the Australian flag, is in danger of being referred to as the Southern Triangle, as the mounting glare from the city's various light sources makes it ever harder ...
