Jeremy at Antipixel recently posted some of his Philosophies of Life. All quite sensible if you ask me, but like a few other people, I thought I might add some of my own to the “list”.
1. Follow your dreams and the rest will fall into place, and,
2. Be careful what you wish for… you often get it.
While on one hand both these… philosophies seem like prequel and sequel, they may also appear a tad contradictory.
In a nutshell, never underestimate the power of positive thinking. If your focus, drive and passion are strong, that is, your heart is in it, you will achieve whatever goal it is you set your sights on.
While this sums up philosophy number one, you often need to ask yourself why exactly you want whatever it is you desire. Hence philosophy number two, how many times have you found what you were looking for, only to realise that perhaps this was not what you wanted after all?
However by this stage you have already sold your soul to the devil, and signed on the dotted line. Sound familiar?
Somehow though I often tend to stray into some sort of middle ground, or neutral territory. That is, I have made myself believe that I will not achieve my goal, then give up even trying to, while still holding out hope that my resolve will prevail. Sort of, if you take my meaning.
It seems to be at this point that what you wish for, what your heart aches for, will come charging at you at 5:05pm on a Friday evening along the local high street, unfortunately only moments after you settled for second best.
And of course that sort of thing will happen a further two times, because we all know these things come in threes.
Obviously these are philosophies I do not really adhere to… otherwise I would already have what I want. I’d have a job with the corner office, I’d be married and living in a house in the suburbs, and maybe I’d be able to look certain people in the eye again.
Like the ones who come charging along local high streets, overflowing with confidence and exuberance, because they know that they want from life, and are attempting to follow their dreams…
People who, paradoxically enough, now have want they want, if only in spirit though.
Of course it must also be remembered that what goes around comes around. One day it will all catch up with you. That may not always be as negative as it seems though. Actually that would constitute a third philosophy of sorts, showing that if nothing else, some things do indeed occur in threes.
