Beat the drum

Posted by John Lampard on Sunday, 13 July, 2003 to the music subset

Triple J has become a tad competitive with its self promotion recently. In the past, the radio station never really actively marketed itself, but that has all changed on the back of declining audience figures over the last few years.Actually even the listening figures themselves make interesting reading. A few years ago Triple J commanded a seven per cent share of radio listeners. ... Read full entry

Taxing times

Posted by John Lampard on Friday, 11 July, 2003 to the design and art subset

Between working on a (another) revamp of disassociated, not to mention actually doing a little paid work as well, I took some time out today to file my tax return. Thanks to the Australian Tax Office's e-tax system, it is convenient and easy to complete and file your personal tax return on-line. What I particularly enjoyed about using the on-line software this year, was the rollover facility the application uses. This means ... Read full entry

A tale of two cities

Posted by John Lampard on Wednesday, 9 July, 2003 to the blogs subset

Sometime in the not too distant past, perhaps three or four years ago during a transitional period of the web's development, there was a time of polarisation amongst the web's non-commercial sites. In one camp there were the websites of web designers. These people, in many cases, produced high quality, image or graphics intensive, websites. This work was sometimes known as eye candy.Occasionally, a few web designers would infuse some serious ... We turn days into years…

Posted by John Lampard on Monday, 7 July, 2003 to the comment subset

Somewhere in the American mid-west a stranger drives into a small town, looking for a hotel for the night. He is taking an extended break from his job after finishing a very time intensive project. After eating at a local diner, he decides to spend the rest of the evening in one of the town's bars. While enjoying a few beers, he divides his time between watching a variety of shows ... Read full entry

Calm before the storm

Posted by John Lampard on Friday, 4 July, 2003 to the music subset

All India Radio. I have mentioned this Melbourne based electronica act before, and I will again. After an enraging week there is nothing like winding down to a little atmospheric ambient grooviness before turning up the volume and the heat ahead of the weekend. Anyone up for some Metallica later, then?

Power of the cube

Posted by John Lampard on Friday, 4 July, 2003 to the comment subset

I thought I would revisit my earlier post of July 2, and the references I made to almost feeling comfortable working in office cubicles. Speaking from the sanctuary of the disassociated studio, it is plain nothing could be further from the truth. The only comfort I derived from working (late) in a little office cubicle was respite from the winter weather in Sydney. That is, it was warm and dry ... Read full entry

I miss the rains down in Sydney

Posted by John Lampard on Thursday, 3 July, 2003 to the comment subset

Well it's official, no longer is it politically incorrect to curse the rain in Sydney. If the Bureau of Meteorology is correct, and we know how exacting a science meteorology is, then the drought conditions that have gripped the eastern seaboard of Australia are over. This is all thanks to the end of the El Nino weather pattern which results in decreased rain fall during its cycle, ... But I recycle…

Posted by John Lampard on Thursday, 3 July, 2003 to the comment subset

Planetslayer. How kind to the planet are you? Think throwing your old newspapers in the recycling bin and using that green washing up liquid for the dishes, makes you a friend of the Earth?Think again after having a go with the greenhouse calculator, although I came in as an environmentally underweight pig, I had still used up my share of the ... The Great Divide exhibition organised by Basefield, who I have mentioned before, opens tonight and runs until July 15 in Melbourne.Jade and the crew have bought together a select group of artists, both Australian and international, working in a variety of mediums, whose work "explores the notion of urbanism and poverty within our communities".All proceeds form the sale of the artists works goes to charity. ... Going for the extra dollar

Posted by John Lampard on Wednesday, 2 July, 2003 to the comment subset

1 July 2003: the beginning of the financial year in Australia. So have you made your Financial New Year's resolutions yet? Adam and Will, the breakfast crew on my local radio station put out a call for listeners to phone in with suggestions for possible financial new year's resolutions. This started me thinking. My resolutions might include cutting up my credit card and paying it off, starting up ... Read full entry
