The ins and outs of NYE

Posted by John Lampard on Wednesday, 31 December, 2003 to the comment subset

On new year’s eve in Sydney, there are two types of people. There are those trying to enter the city. They want to take part in the CBD’s NYE revelry, and watch the Sydney fireworks from the harbour. Then there are those trying to leave the city. There are plenty of parties outside the city. There are also some great vantage points for watching the fireworks as well. Minus the crush ... Read full entry

2003 going to sleep…

Posted by John Lampard on Wednesday, 31 December, 2003 to the disassociated subset

What have you achieved this year? INfronter’s discuss their achievements in 2003. I could probably think of just one thing. Therefore the to do list for 2004 is growing bigger by the day. Wonder if any of those items will end up on my achievements list for 2004?Otherwise 2003 can be summarised by the daily quotes for the last three days of this ... Read full entry

It’s a funny old game…

Posted by John Lampard on Monday, 29 December, 2003 to the comment subset

This summer’s cricket season is in full swing. Australia and India are engaged in a four game home test series. India is one up, and the final result rests on the outcome of the remaining two matches. And where cricket is being played, you can be certain that cricket statisticians won’t be far away. Cricket is a game of strategy and numbers. All sorts of numbers. The game is a statistician’s ... Read full entry

Christmas roast?

Posted by John Lampard on Friday, 26 December, 2003 to the disassociated subset

Christmas day 2003 in Sydney was a scorcher!Sunshine, blue skies, and temperatures peaking at 39 degrees Celsius in Sydney’s west. Closer to the coast, we were treated to about 33 degrees. That’s the warmest Christmas we’ve had for a few years. A great day to stay in the shade and drink beer! :)

Spinning round and round

Posted by John Lampard on Friday, 26 December, 2003 to the comment subset

It seems the Earth’s rotation is speeding up. Only slightly mind you. By one second a year of late. This has the cumulative effect of making the days shorter, if only by a fraction of a nanosecond. Highly accurate atomic clocks have even been adjusted to make allowance for this change. The last month and a half have been busy, or so I thought. I have been unable to update disassociated ... One little mis-take…

Posted by John Lampard on Friday, 26 December, 2003 to the movies subset

The cast and crew of The return of the King, the third and final installment of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, have barely walked off the red carpet after the movie’s premier and already people are poking holes in the production.Do people have nothing better to do? It seems 41 errors of some ... Read full entry

this… this… I want THIS!

Posted by John Lampard on Wednesday, 17 December, 2003 to the movies subset

To be with another woman, that is French. To be caught, that is American.Set in the beautiful, though fictitious, Beaumont Sur Mer in the south of France, 1988’s Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a comedy classic worth seeing again and again.Protagonists Lawrence Jamieson (played by Michael Caine) and Freddy Benson (Steve Martin) slug it out to see who can extract $50,000 from the apparently hapless Janet ... The battle of the biscuit

Posted by John Lampard on Monday, 15 December, 2003 to the comment subset

We propose banning chocolate biscuits for the health and well-being of all staff.I don’t usually get stirred up by the dictates of company policy. To me it’s much of a muchness. One article of company policy cannot possibly be any worse than another. Ultimately it’s all just a waste of space.A company’s policy committee can issue orders and directives ad lib for all I care. If they get a kick ... Read full entry

version 2.3

Posted by John Lampard on Wednesday, 10 December, 2003 to the disassociated subset

I’ve just spent the last few days giving disassociated a bit of a revamp. If you are a regular visitor you may notice a few of the changes immediately.I have done away with the Radio Show section. It was an idea that just never took off. Maybe in the future I will get back to it. In the meantime I have taken it down completely. I’ve also updated some of ... Read full entry

Spell check reality check?

Posted by John Lampard on Wednesday, 10 December, 2003 to the comment subset

Why is the word Verdana being flagged on my word processor as incorrectly spelt? The font I am using to write this document is set to verdana. You would think that the word processor would know the correct spelling of its own fonts? What am I missing here?Once though while using Microsoft’s word processor a few years ago, it alerted me that the name Bill Gateswas incorrect. Even though I had ... Read full entry
