The weather in Sydney of late has been unpredictable to say the least. With summer approaching you might expect temperatures to be reasonable consistent. To a degree that is, if you’ll excuse the pun.
Instead we have days where it is almost 40°C one day, followed by a maximum temperature of less than 20°C, the next! Put it down to the southerly busters, bringing cooler sub Antarctic air with them, that often arrive in the afternoons, providing some merciful respite from the heat late in the day.
The only problem is temperatures occasionally remain low as the southerly airstream can retain its grip on the region for several days. Not that I’m complaining about the lower temperatures though. Especially after days of high temperatures and high humidity, which Sydney is prone to mid-summer.
Today as I write this though Sydney is being buffered by an exceptionally strong southerly buster. Power lines have been blown down, trees uprooted, and roofs torn from houses in some areas.
In a way it surprises me that people still complain about the unpredictability of the Sydney weather. We really seem to get it all. Whether it be oversized hail stones, torrential rain, rain for weeks on end, no rain for months on end, and howling wind storms.
In other words, it is highly predictable to expect unpredictable weather here!
