fountain, Martin Place, Sydney

Since I don’t know its name (since fountains tend to have names of some sort), I’ll just call this the Martin Place fountain. Martin Place is a (mainly pedestrian) plaza that spans several blocks of Sydney’s CBD.

Note the highly polished, reflective, and floodlit surfaces. A would-be photographer’s delight. At the time the picture was taken the fountain was not operating. When in action though, water cacades down its vertical face.

The photo below offers a better view of these, and you can probably see water stains on the vertical panels.

When in action, water cacades down its vertical face, creating quite a bit of churning in the fountain’s pond. Perhaps they could make butter with this fountain?

But while churning butter may be out of the question, people have put the “churn” to good, or at least humerous, effect in other ways. In the past, one or two people have emptied bottles of detergent into the pond of the fountain.

Combine detergent with the fountain’s churning effect, and what do you get? Martin Place awash with detergent foam!
