The latest MyBlogLog (MBL) initiative, community messaging, which was launched sometime today (Sydney time), while in essence a great idea, could have been better executed I believe. Basically the new facility allows MBL members to send messages, en masse to everyone who is a member of their MBL blog community. First up, I think the facility to communicate this way, that is, en masse is a great idea. It's an ... Read full entry

I'm a little fussy when it comes to the photos I'll post up on my Flickr page. Ideally I prefer they were prefect, crystal clear and sharply focussed. Maybe that will have to wait though until I upgrade the four year old 3.2 megapixel Optio I am currently using! Anyway I did a bit of driving around last weekend and in the process grabbed a few snaps during various stop ... Read full entry

2.2.1

Posted by John Lampard on Friday, 29 June, 2007 to the disassociated subset

Apologies for the longer than expected outage during the upgrade to Wordpress 2.2.1... one or two files didn't make the upload (no one click installs on this web server - it's a manual process!), so things didn't quite run as expected. All should be well now. And I enabled Akismet after the upgrade... it seems someone (a spammer) was trying to dispense dodgy share market advice here earlier!

Thanks to Nate Sanden and his Show Top Commentators plugin, which is now up and running here (on the sidebar, to your right). As for the rest of you, go crazy, get yourself on the list, leave some comments! The "Incoming Links" list on my WP control panel seems to be on the blink so I'm glad I checked the score at Technorati, where I discovered ... Read full entry

Romulus, My father

Posted by John Lampard on Wednesday, 27 June, 2007 to the movies subset

Advance warning: Romulus, My father is the classic tear jerker. Someone sitting a few seats from me, at the screening I saw, was in tears for the last half of the movie. The little I had heard about this Australian production before seeing it, told me the story followed the trials ... Read full entry

Busted

Posted by John Lampard on Wednesday, 27 June, 2007 to the disassociated subset

I've just added a couple more photos to my Flickr page, which I snapped while making an unplanned stop in the Sydney suburb of Glebe last Sunday. I'd stopped (yes - pulled over - no contravening of local laws against using a mobile whilst driving here!) to take a phone call from a friend who is in Europe, so as to end ... Read full entry

David Capra whom I profiled at OnVoiceOver earlier this year writes to tell me he is taking part in Western Front 2007, a biennial event showcasing contemporary artists in key galleries, museums and public spaces, in Western Sydney. David, who is currently travelling around Europe, started working on his exhibition pieces while staying with Franciscan monks in Tuscany! Thanks to Snorkred for her suggestion to "combat" those ... This is about the third week since I "relaunched" disassociated.com in its new Wordpress casing. This is also about the third week since I started making a concerted effort to promote disassociated.com. Although I've been blogging here for almost five years, about the only people who had linked here, up until a few weeks ago, were pretty much people I knew personally. It would be fair to say "promotional" efforts ... Read full entry

I wonder how many managers realise just how many apparently under utilised staff they have. My observations are hardly scientific, but I while we were out for dinner last night, and again while I was having coffee this morning, the conversations I overheard on both occasions were almost identical. In both cases people at adjoining tables were contemplating the upcoming working week. The upshot of both conversations was something like this: "Guess I'll ... Read full entry
