Of all the movies I have ever seen, The Simpsons was one of the few that I couldn’t wait to see start. I can’t remember the last time I anticipated the beginning of a movie which such enthusiasm!
Why? I don’t really know…
Maybe it’s because I don’t see “The Simpsons” much on TV anymore. Maybe it’s because the very mention of “The Simpsons” translates to “fun times ahead”, and a movie length version signals a super sized dose of the superb dark, and twisted, humour that has been the mainstay of the TV series!
Needless to say, Springfield’s four fingered funnies didn’t disappoint during their big screen outing.
But how how could the producers go wrong here? Short of serving up an absolute stinker, any movie adaptation of the long running TV series was always going to be a hoot.
I didn’t hear a word of disappointment or protest at movie’s conclusion either. There were no books to “compare” the storyline with, no distorting of actual events, or even the time line holes that are left by some biopics, to mull over.
Hilarious as the experience was, seeing a movie adaptation of “The Simpsons” didn’t entirely feel like seeing a movie… it really felt like seeing a regular, though extended, episode of the TV show. Don’t let my philosophising get to you though.
There’s no hidden messages to decipher, or complex plots to untangle here. Give those cognitive functions the night off, and sit back and enjoy. Oh, and watch out for the fake ending.
OMG, a spoiler! D’oh!

Fake ending? Doh! I didn’t stay in the cinema long enough!
I really enjoyed it and as you said it did feel like an extended episode. One thing that spoilt it for me is I think they gave away too much in the trailers (that is if you watched everyone of them before the movie like I did).
The only trailer I saw was the one at the movies, and I only happened to see one or twice at that.
I guess the producers knew they could get away with releasing “unlimited” trailers… everyone was still going to see the movie regardless of how many “previews” they’d seen! :)
i cant wait to see this one
It’s a hoot :)
I’ve been so busy with work I still haven’t got round to seeing this, nor have I seen the Transformers yet! Two movies I have anticipated and failed to go see.
I have heard a lot of good things about The Simpsons Movie, I really think I’m missing out. Will have to make time next week to go watch it before they take it down from the Cinema.
