C&C

posted by John Lampard on Thursday, 16 August, 2007 to the disassociated subset

Apologies to all (and there’s been quite a few of you) who have been trying to access disassociated.com for the last twelve hours.

A couple of things happened.

First a recent post made the front page of digg! w00t! My first time!

Then my web host of ten years advised me that disassociated was the subject of a DOS attack, and they were taking the site off line. Immediately.

I asked if the DOS attack was possibly being confused with my listing on digg.com, and the surge in traffic that can result.

Nope, it ain’t, we know the difference, I was told. You don’t need mirrors mate, you just need to nip this DOS thing in the bud!

So my first mention on digg.com and my first DOS attack… all on the same day.

M’kay…

Please don’t judge Australian web hosting by this… incident. I’m just happy disassociated is back… I’ve felt dislocated all day…

  • Congrads on the Digg, sorry about the crash – I guess that little Digger guy will be your top referer on Romlet for a while ;)

  • Heh, the more I hear them say, the more I think they thought it really was a DOS attack… blogs are something you only tell your aunt you have, aren’t they? Traffic is still arriving so yes I guess the digg logo will around for a while :)

  • Thanks Luke. Yes disassociated was on the front page by that time. I think the hosting people were a bit confused by the sudden volume of incoming traffic… they’d never heard of digg for instance, at least they “reinstated” the site eventually.

  • Wow, that’s great news. The front page of Digg ~ What we all dream of :)

But that does suck about the DOS attack. Was the story on the Digg front page when the site was taken offline?
