Fracture

There’s no doubting the versatility of Anthony Hopkins as an actor.

The last couple of times I have seen him, in The World’s Fastest Indian and Bobby, he portrayed kindly older men, who may possibly be reminiscent of your grandfather.

In Fracture however, he is almost unrecognisable.

Playing Ted Crawford, an aircraft engineer, Hopkins’ role sees him return more to the dark and twisted persona many of us came to admire (or is that fear?) as Hannibal Lecter, as he attempts to outwit a prosecuting attorney, played by Ryan Gosling.

Despite shooting, though not killing, his adulterous wife (Embeth Davidtz) and signing a police confession attesting as much, he subsequently manages to evade both the police, and the District Attorney’s office, with some precise courtroom maneuvers.

Crawford is adept at finding a person’s weak points and character flaws, and utilising them to his advantage. In doing so though, he overlooks his own, and his smug self assurance and belief that he can never err in his judgement.

This will keep you guessing right up to the end though…
