A dog, an eight-year-old Maltese, who inherited $14 million from her late owner, billionaire Leona Helmsley, is being sued by a former housekeeper, who claims the “heiress” bit her!

No, this is NOT some disassociated fantasy I’ve conjured up either. Trust me, I had to re-read the article to make sure my eyes weren’t playing tricks on me.

It wasn’t the “lawsuit” that so much caught my eye, but rather another problem the mutt, known as Trouble (ok…) has.

Not only may Trouble need a lawyer, but she may also need a new owner after it was reported that Mrs Helmsley’s brother, Alvin Rosenthal, to whom the dog was left, does not want her.

Now if I was this Alvin chap, I’d “look after” the dog. Even if that meant locking her under the staircase (so as not to be bitten, of course…) for the duration. Why? Because as her “primary carer” I’d then inherit her $14 million estate when the time came.

Thanks to some shrewd investments that $14 million surely would have greatly appreciated in value by the time Trouble shuffles off this mortal coil. What’s happened to people’s investment savvy these days?! ;)

Anyway the last word has to go the former housekeeper’s son.

Her son, Remus Pop, said the family were talking to a law firm about restarting the case, this time against the trust holding Trouble’s inheritance. “That dog got money,” he said. “That money is going to be taken away from that dog.”

  • Egads, I think even I could manage to love this mutt under the circumstances! And Im not known to be a dog person LOL
Also thought it funny that the housekeepers son is named Remus – as it made me think of Romulus & Remus – the twins who were raised by wolves!

  • I’m a cat person myself, but if I stood to inherit $14++ mil for walking a dog around the block once a day, I’d tolerate the inconvenience also ;)

  • I read an article a couple of days ago about an alsation that had inheritted a similar sum of money, but the money was then passed on to the dogs offspring. I’d love to know exactly how much money is currently held by the animal kingdom and considering the plight of other edangered species or captive animals, why aren’t these millionaire mutts spreading the love a little.

  • Sure give me the dog. Certainly people have the right to do as they please with their money. I wonder how tightly wound that will was ?

  • Can you believe the eccentricities of people? Just insane. Give me the dog – for $14 million I might let the little bugger bite me :)

  • Phew………… I don’t have words to say. A dog to inherit $14 million sounds too unrealistic.
