iTunes update screen

Dear Apple,

How often must we download updates for your fine iTunes software? It seems nowadays nary a week goes by without the appearance of that dreaded software update notification pop-up on my lappy screen.

Why, these days I feel I spend more time downloading your music playing software than I do downloading music to play on it!

My question, and maybe that of countless others also, is how often does your software need to be updated? It is not possible to develop a stable and secure version of iTunes and then leave us to enjoy it for say a month? Maybe even two?

Yes I know technologies are evolving and changing faster than ice cream melts on a fine Sydney’s spring day, but really must you heft “new and improved” software upon us almost daily?

And what’s with this “you must restart your computer for the updates to take effect” nonsense? Some of us are trying to work dear Apple, and don’t want to do a restart when hours remain in the work day.

It’s not just iTunes I am running here you know, and the prospect of having to close umpteen apps only to reopen them all again does not amuse me in the least, not to mention the fact I must go without music for the duration thereof.

Please more music and less updates…

  • I simply denied iTunes access to the internet via my firewall - problem sovlered. It hasn’t been updated for months, but I haven’t had any problems with it either so see no need to update.

  • That might work… thing is Apple insist the updates are critical as vulnerabilities in the current software could be exploited. It would really help if they did a bit more time testing of software before they release it…
