Stopping the clock’s a risky business

Posted by John Lampard on Wednesday, 31 October, 2007 to the comment subset

Stopping the clock's a risky business. Some bad news I'm afraid. It seems Tom Cruise hasn't been acting his age, and apparently his work as a movie star has something to do with the "problem". His acting skills, the script and the stuntman have convinced us all that he's eternally young, vital, desirable, indestructible. And that's the trouble. He believes it himself and is loath to move on. Tom's not alone though, ... Read full entry

Five tips for naming your business: this is not as easy as it seems. "Your business name needs to be original, legally available and it must be able to represent you and what you do for many years to come." Beautiful sites with no (or very few) images: "I've decided to examine (by example) the characteristics of sites that are aesthetically pleasing even though no (OK - maybe one ... Read full entry

Feeding the Media Snackers

Posted by John Lampard on Wednesday, 31 October, 2007 to the comment subset

Feeding the Media Snackers. My generation is historically known for being addicted to bite-sized bits of information. The Internet hit schools right at the time we were enveloped in the core of our developmental learning. We quickly adapted and changed how we digested information, and schools in turn changed the way they taught. This was the beginning of the Media Snackers. Chris Wilson has some great tips for blogging with ... Read full entry

Facebook giveth, Facebook taketh away

Posted by John Lampard on Wednesday, 31 October, 2007 to the comment subset

Facebook giveth, Facebook taketh away. Now that Cheese Station G's bitch slap pagerank updates are behind us (for the moment anyway...), there's a far more disconcerting phenomenon to, er, face up to: Facebook bitch slaps. Without rhyme, reason and with no recourse, the social networking site Facebook has taken to purging the ranks of its members, blackballing them for the most petty breaches of its terms of service. What's Facebook ... Read full entry

Michael Clayton

Posted by John Lampard on Tuesday, 30 October, 2007 to the movies subset

Enviably uber suave George Clooney plays world weary defense lawyer Michael Clayton, who finds himself embroiled in a class suit against the less than scrupulous legal team of an agriculture company... outside the court room. A tale of intrigue that works a treat.

One Windows Per Child

One Windows Per Child Here we go. The One Laptop per Child Foundation plans to start producing [] notebooks next month running a version of the Linux open source operating system. It hopes to eventually manufacture millions a year for school children in developing countries. But Microsoft isn't happy about the Linux Operating System part of the plan. Who moved my cheese?

Posted by John Lampard on Monday, 29 October, 2007 to the comment subset

Who moved my cheese? Somehow I ended up with a copy of this book, and rediscovered it, yes, when digging around in a cupboard the other day. Let's cut straight to the chase... Hem and Haw awoke each day a little later, dressed a little slower, and walked to Cheese Station C. After all, they knew where the cheese was now and how to get there. They had no idea where the ... Chocolate box

Posted by John Lampard on Monday, 29 October, 2007 to the design and art subset

Brown was the colour to use in web design three years ago. And for interior design a little more recently. It occurred to me over the weekend that my apartment looks like a cross between a box of chocolates and, also maybe, an Ikea showroom. This, you understand, is all part of an effort to be... fashionable. I have chocolate coloured (hues vary ... Read full entry

Daily Photography

Daily Photography. I once tried to get into the "take a photo everyday" habit, but it never happened. Apparently it takes 30 days to establish a habit. A good habit I'd say, as bad habits come about in no time at all. If you're looking to establish a photography habit, the Tutorial Blog offers a few pointers to get into the flow. Do exercise in photography regularly, as often as ... Read full entry

The first day of summer

Posted by John Lampard on Saturday, 27 October, 2007 to the disassociated subset

I think we really only have two seasons here in Sydney. Autumn and summer. And summer, in my book, starts as of 3am tomorrow, Sunday, when the clocks go forward for daylight saving. The heat and humidity have already arrived, so why bother waiting until the December 21 solstice to make it official? Besides, I like summer time, and not just because of that ... Read full entry
