Here we go.
The One Laptop per Child Foundation plans to start producing [] notebooks next month running a version of the Linux open source operating system. It hopes to eventually manufacture millions a year for school children in developing countries.
But Microsoft isn’t happy about the Linux Operating System part of the plan.
The thought of all those children growing up without Windows is obviously too painful for Microsoft, which has reportedly spent a “non-trivial amount of money” getting Windows XP to run on the low spec machines.
I say let One Laptop focus on what it does best; distributing laptops to children in developing countries, and let Microsoft focus on what it does best; producing secure, flaw free operating systems and software. Or is that asking too much?

Sarcasm ;P
Yer wrong. Microsoft does not produce “secure, flaw free operating systems and software”. It never has and probably never will.
With so many kids now going to learn Linux, Microsoft is afraid they will lose a market share in the future.
Ha Ha Ha. I jut bought a laptop and shudder to think about the system resources allocated to Windows.
@ Mands … me sarcastic? Never!
@ Patrick - welcome to disassociated :) I’ve always had the utmost regard for Microsoft products, especially Internet Explorer, Windows 95, and of course FrontPage 97 ;)
@ Colin - well what did they once say about Win 95… it alone hogged 55% of system resources… I wonder if later versions ever went below 50%? My brother uses Linux and swears by it… maybe I should upgrade!
“My brother uses Linux and swears by it… maybe I should upgrade!”
Linux Mepis. Ya can’t beat it.
