Shatner livid at Star Trek snub.
Despite not being offered a cameo role in the upcoming Star Trek movie, William Shatner aka Captain James T Kirk, still believes the movie will still prosper without his presence, according to an interview on US TV show Extra.
Shatner told Extra that while he would have added to the film’s appeal, he believes it will be successful without him.
Leonard Nimoy (Mr Spock) has already accepted a role in the film, as have a number of other ex USS Enterprise crew members.
Maybe it’s a timeline thing. Kirk was killed off in Generations, the first of the “Next Generation” movies, and his presence among the older, original, crew members may pose continuity problems.
For those who don’t know, Star Trek is being rebooted, and a prequel movie featuring all the original characters, played by younger and different actors, is in production. I’d just like to know what sort of role the original crew play in the new movie though…

I think they made a mistake by bringing back old cast members for cameos or flashbacks if you’re going to reboot Star Trek. It kind of undermines the purpose of a reboot, where you have a chance to redo things.
I think it’s more of a Hollywood reboot than a Star Trek reboot though.
A new cast should provide enough juice for a couple more Trek movies… right? Having the older crew involved invokes a sense of “handover” if you see what I mean.
I’m also willing to bet Shatner got a little something for his Extra interview comments. Any publicity is good publicity right?
Man, I’m waxing cynical tonight! :)
