The Value of Being Incomplete: What Are Your Goals for 2008? possibly the most enjoyable post I’ve read at Dosh Dosh so far.

The year is coming to a close. When December finally changes into January, I will inevitably get a bittersweet feeling of starting over again, as I anticipate the opportunities yet to come in 2008.

Here is another chance for me to embark on new ventures, to accomplish the plans I’ve made in the last year, to do what I failed to do before. One more chance to do something extraordinary; something that changes my life and everything around me.

I’ve been preoccupied with many thoughts on my websites and their future. It’s time to shake off the fear of the unknown and play around with the possibility of change. I am far too complacent and comfortable. Too unwilling to believe there’s a completely different way of doing things. Too lazy to explore alternatives.

You can’t beat personal and introspective posts, and this is what it’s all about… +

Photos of 2007 by the Sydney Morning Herald: awesome collection of photos from around Australia, and the world, as taken by the Sydney Morning Herald’s photographers. The shot of the blood red Moon over Sydney Harbour Bridge is my favourite. +

Alien astronomers could discern Earth’s features: ever get the feeling you’re being watched but can’t quite put your finger on who it might be? The question may be not who is watching, but from where they are.

Aliens spying on us from another star system might be able to discern continents and oceans on our planet, using technology barely more advanced than our own.

The tyranny of distance means that even from the nearest star systems, both the Earth and Moon would appear to be little more than the size of a pixel, when viewed with extraterrestrial telescopes.

There is one trick, however, that astronomers might employ. As an alien Earth rotates, sunlight falls on different surface features such as forests, deserts and seas, and the total brightness of the planet should vary. By plotting that fluctuation in brightness over many days, a careful observer could sketch out those surface features.

Could this be the War of the Worlds all over again?! +

Because coffee can be Foamee, too: actually I’m surprised this wasn’t the first Foamee initiative… web peoples tend to, after all, be big coffee drinkers. Of course we love our beer also, but only afters hours? Right Carlisle? +

The Wooden Briefcase: I’m not a big fan, nor user, of briefcases, but I liked the look of this wood styled inception, by Japanese designer Takumi Shimamura.

Wooden briefcase

Only available in the USA and Canada at the moment though I believe. +
