Some holiday reading by Charles Purcell. What’s the deal with Batman, a.k.a. the Dark Knight, anyway?
His parents were shot and killed in front of him. He hangs around in a cave. He dresses up in tights and beats people up at night. He has a dual personality – half businessman, half vigilante. He has a thing about bats.
I have a thing about bats also. There’s a bunch of them who have taken up residence in a Port Jackson Fig tree around the corner, and as soon as darkness falls they go, well, a little crazy.
But what would a psychiatrist make of Batman and his mental health? Is he depressed? Psychotic? Does the Dark Knight need Prozac?
I honestly think the Dark Knight is just a well intentioned guy trying to make a difference in the world. Rant over.
