Beazley tipped for government crown

Beazley tipped for government crown.

While I think it is fitting that former government minister, and leader of the Australian Labor Party, Kim Beazley be appointed to the largely ceremonious role of Governor General, or head of state, could you please tell me why he may be the last Governor General?

Former Labor leader Kim Beazley is set to be offered the job of Australia’s next - and probably last - governor-general.

Yes, I know there is on-going talk, albeit rather quiet presently, of Australia becoming a republic one day, with a President serving as (figurehead) head of state rather than a Governor General, but is this likely to occur within the next five years, which is the typical term an Australian Governor General serves?

Not that I, by the way, have a problem in the slightest with Australia becoming a republic, it’s well overdue.
