Pope’s visit: road closures like APEC
Up to one third of Sydney city’s ability to carry traffic will be lost during the upcoming visit of Pope Benedict XVI, for the World Youth Day event, in July this year. It will be like APEC and the Sydney Olympics all over again, according to government figures.
“World Youth Day is actually a week-long celebration that will be like the APEC road closures and the Olympics combined,” NSW Deputy Premier John Watkins said. “The RTA has said that, to cater for the event and the police security requests, they are losing as least a third of the city’s ability to carry traffic with the extent of road closures.
More information regarding Sydney road closures during the papal visit can be found on the RTA website.
