Star Wars: a sort of sequel that’s a prequel

A new Star Wars video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will apparently fill us in on some of the events that took place between Episode III and Episode IV of the Star Wars movie series, according to Haden Blackman of LucasArts.

“There’s a couple of big twists and turns in the story,” said Blackman. “One revelation in particular really impacts the rest of the saga as a whole. It goes way beyond filling in gaps. We try to make a bridge on every level. The story has a real implications on ‘Episode IV.’ In some ways, without the apprentice, ‘Episode IV’ couldn’t happen.”

If I am reading this correctly Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is “canon”, meaning whatever occurs during its course is officially part of the Star Wars story, in much the same way events during an earlier game, Knights of the Old Republic, are also canon, despite being set 4000 years before the time of the six movie series.
