The Joker has always been my favourite Batman villain, and personally of the three Jokers I have seen, it was Cesar Romero from the 1960’s TV series, whom I liked the most, mainly for his maniacal laugh.
Jack Nicholson was good, but somehow didn’t quite cut it in my opinion.
Heath Ledger’s portrayal of The Joker in The Dark Knight, was always going to be highly anticipated, and in an otherwise fast paced, and gratuitously violent affair, Ledger’s deeply twisted Joker provides the movie’s few humourous respites.
In fact so fast, unrelenting, and at times outright implausible, is the action and mayhem, that it (ironically) over shadows much of the story. This is unfortunate as any impact the movie could have left was lost by curtain fall.
