A glossary of agile development terms for budding agile developers to swot up on, prepared by Alex Howard. Since I’ve bumbled my way through one or two stand-ups (even though I don’t know my Ruby from my Java), let’s focus on those:
A stand-up is a daily progress meeting, traditionally held within a development area. Business customers may attend for the purpose of gathering information. The term “standup” is derived from the way it is run all attendees must remain standing to keep it short and the team engaged.
It’s all about face-to-face communication and bringing development problems into the open. No hiding behind impersonal methods of communication, such as email, when you’re part of an agile dev team.
Three things happen during a stand-up: 1} you summarise what you did the previous workday, 2} you outline what you hope to achieve today, 3} you mention any obstacles that are hindering your progress.
