Sydney suburb Chippendale’s postcode is 2008, so it is fitting that a photographic exhibition celebrating the slowly disappearing charm, and notoriety, of this inner west locality, made up of the work of Sydney photographer Lucia Fischer, be held this year.

The show opens at aMBUSH Gallery, in Waterloo, Sydney, on Friday 24 October 2008, from 6pm.

Chippendale, postcode 2008, is a mere 0.7 square kilometer area with a strong cultural history of heavy industry, poor housing, violence, alcoholism, grime and crime. This culture stems from the 173 year old CUB Brewery, which was responsible for the building of much of its surrounding architecture and is now in the process of being demolished and redeveloped. The brewery and the eclectic atmosphere of the surrounding streets have become a visual obsession for Lucia who has been capturing the rapid transformation of the area over the past two years.
