Loew’s Grand Theatre in the US city of Atlanta used to employ two artists to create unique posters for the films they screened, rather than using the standard issue posters supplied by the movie studio.
Unlike most theaters, which used printed posters sent to them by the movie studios, Loew’s Grand Theatre on Peachtree Street in Atlanta – which showed Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer films almost exclusively – kept two artists on staff, Charles Reese Collier and Sid Smith. They made posters – unique works of art, really – with chalk and paint for each new film.
Lovely work.
