Some of Sydney’s buses have been in service for so long that four of them have clocked up mileage that equates to two return journeys to the Moon:
According to the NASA website, the moon is 378,000 kilometres from the Earth at the equator. A total of 528 of the 2003 buses have notched up a million kilometres and Sydney’s most travelled bus has 1,503,107 kilometres on its clock. It entered service on April 3, 1984. The three other buses, also commissioned in 1984 and also based in Leichhardt, have done 1,493,237 kilometres, 1,449,550 kilometres and 1,449,291 kilometres. “The proportion of these older buses has nearly doubled in the past five years,” Ms Berejiklian said.
