Red Cliff is John Woo’s depiction of a power struggle among Chinese warlords 1800 years ago. While visually stunning the story however struggles to create tension despite its David verses Goliath nature, which sees an army of 50,000 pitted against a force of 800,000.
Still the formulation of battle strategy and intelligence gathering in an age where there were no technology aids (satellites, spy planes, etc) to assist adds intrigue to proceedings.
