The nominations for this year’s Australian Film Institute (AFI) awards have been announced, with Balibo by Robert Connolly, and Samson & Delilah by Warwick Thornton, taking out the most individual nominations.
Robert Connolly’s Balibo, about the deaths of six Australian journalists during and immediately after the Indonesian invasion of East Timor in 1975, has received 14 nominations. Warwick Thornton’s gritty tale about two Aboriginal teens has received 13 nominations, including best picture, best direction and best actor and actress for young stars Rowan McNamara and Marissa Gibson.
