This may be the law, but is it justice?

TV crime shows and discussions on talk-back radio may be creating a negative impression of the Australian justice system, after a survey found just 35% of Australians had confidence in their court and prison system.

While 79 per cent of Danish citizens surveyed had “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in the criminal justice system, in Australia it was only 35 per cent. Canadians reported 57 per cent, British 49, and Lithuanians had the lowest confidence among 36 countries surveyed, with 19 per cent. The perception was influenced by the lack of personal contact with the court and prison system, leaving people to rely on media reports, the report said.
