What happened after you reached the top of the graduating class?

Alumni from various high school classes of 1987, near Buffalo, New York, many of whom graduated at the top of their class, or left school with (mostly others) high expectations that they would “succeed”, talk about how they have actually fared in the twenty years since leaving school.

Cybersquatting the class of 2013 on Facebook?

The people setting up alumni groups on Facebook may not be who you think they are. That is, they may not be students of the university or college in question. In fact they may not have even set foot on the campus.

Why would someone do this though? So there’s a ready made audience for the spam they one day intend to send out.

While the situation flagged at SquaredPeg appears to have been resolved, I dare say others will attempt something similar, if they haven’t already.

Think of it: Sitting back for 8-10 months, (even a few years), maybe friending everyone and posing as an incoming student. Think of the data collection. The opportunities down the road to push affiliate links. The opportunity to appear to be an ‘Admin’ of Your School Class of 2013. The chance to message alumni down the road. The list of possibilities goes on and on and on.

Of course the gambit will only pay out if Facebook is still remotely relevant in 2013, and beyond.
