Duplicity

Duplicity, as we learn, as the movie progresses, is a series of quickly rendering twists.

In fact the opening scene is probably just another of the twists, merely masquerading as an introduction to the main players, Ray Koval (Clive Owen) and Claire Stenwick (Julia Roberts), who are/were espionage agents, or so we are lead to believe.

Double crossings and red herrings abound as rival corporations vie to bring a secret new product to the market. For the wheeling and dealing that ensues you would be forgiven for thinking that the formula to eternal life was at stake. Not quite though.

Or at least apparently not.

Charlie Wilson’s War

Texas congressman Charlie Wilson manages to win the cold war, or at least play a hand in ending the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, in the late 1980s. More a case of winning the battle but losing the war as history went on to show.

A banner reading “Charlie Did It!” can be seen at both the beginning and end of the movie. How different the banner’s meaning is by the closing scenes though…
