Only 4.13 per cent of websites adhere to web standards

Posted by John Lampard on Monday, 20 October, 2008 to the comment subset

Rather sobering news following a recent Opera MAMA aka Metadata Analysis and Mining Application survey of websites, found only: 4.13% adhere to any sort of web standard: MAMA found that 145,009 out of 3,509,180 URLs passed validation - only 4.13%!. Even though this ratio shows great improvement over the results of previous validation studies, this is a very worrying figure, which shows that there is a lot of Web standards ... Read full entry

Posted by John Lampard on Friday, 4 July, 2008 to the technology subset

Despite being downloaded in record breaking numbers on Download Day, not everyone is overjoyed with the latest release of Firefox. Andrew Brown for one has decided to adopt the latest Opera browser as his default, and draws some interesting distinctions between open and closed source software development when comparing the browsers. The contrast between Opera and Firefox is an interesting example of the contrasting strengths of open and closed ... Read full entry

Now it’s Opera verses Safari verses Firefox 3

Posted by John Lampard on Thursday, 19 June, 2008 to the technology subset

Aside from the minor matter that Internet Explorer is installed, by default, on 90 per cent (or some such figure) of PCs worldwide, much of the reporting I saw on Download Day, and the release of Firefox 3, saw IE relegated to the sidelines. It's faster than Microsoft Internet Explorer, but it’s not the fastest browser in the world - depending on who you ask, ... Read full entry

IE, Firefox, Opera, Safari web browsers compared

Posted by John Lampard on Friday, 30 May, 2008 to the technology subset

A study of the four best known current browsers finds Safari and Firefox (especially pending release version three) to be the best when tested against a variety of benchmarks. Web 2.0 applications and sites place the focus firmly on browser performance. Anyone who still believes that the speed of your DSL connection is the only potential bottleneck is gravely mistaken. Key parts of Ajax applications run locally, which ... Read full entry

Opera and Safari Pass Acid3 Test

Opera and Safari Pass Acid3 Test Good. I use both browsers. I recommend Windows (and even Mac :) users give Safari a whirl, as I especially love the way disassociated.com renders a treat therein :) Of course it's a great browser besides that.

Font Creation Case Study: Joules: an in depth look at the font creation process by Alec Julien. Many years ago the thought of creating a font set appealed to me, until I realised just how much time and effort the process requires. I simply wouldn't have the patience to see such an undertaking through. +... Read full entry

Oooohhh, it’s very close to the witching hour now, hey KIDS?Anyway a few quick Developer’s notes, of sorts. Sorry to those using Opera to browse this site - it looks rather SHITE (certainly in Opera 9.02 for Windows, the version I have). I’m not sure why as yet. The XHTML & CSS code validates, and all looks FINE in the latest versions of Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Netscape.Being NYE ... Read full entry
