I don't know if that's the intention of the Cafe 105 wall muralist, but that's the way I see it.

The Spring Carnival and the return of racing to Randwick
Posted by John Lampard on Friday, 5 September, 2008 to the events subset
The World Youth Day event at Randwick Racecourse seems like a long distant memory now, and after months of absence, the horses and racing return to Randwick tomorrow. The big event on the racing calendar however is the Spring Carnival, which kicks off on 27 September and runs through until Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday 4 November. Time to pull the suit out of moth balls and ... Read full entry

Whose that girl at Cafe 105?
Posted by John Lampard on Monday, 1 September, 2008 to the design and art subset
It's been a while between coffees at Cafe 105 - I realised for instance last weekend's coffee run there was the first in almost three months - but there is a new mural on 105's renown art wall. More angles on Flickr.

Randwick is bordered by pizza restaurants
Posted by John Lampard on Tuesday, 26 August, 2008 to the disassociated subset
At least on its northern and southern borders anyway, with Queens Park Pizza Cafe to the north along Darley road, Arthur's Pizza, in The Spot, to the south. I only made this not-too-significant geographical realisation after collecting takeaway pizza from both places over the course of last weekend. What was more puzzling however was the realisation I hadn't ... Read full entry

Meanwhile at Randwick Racecourse
Posted by John Lampard on Thursday, 17 July, 2008 to the events subset
Preparations for World Youth Day events at Sydney's Randwick Racecourse are in full swing with work now taking place around the clock. The racecourse is floodlit through out the night and the off-white lights cast what seems like a golden glow over the site. Sound tests of the audio equipment have been in progress this morning, and ... Read full entry

Posted by John Lampard on Tuesday, 1 July, 2008 to the comment subset
Every 85 pilgrims attending Pope Benedict XVI's mass at Sydney's Randwick Racecourse will have the use of one toilet between them, thanks to Ken Talbot and company who are currently installing 3,500 toilets at the World Youth Day site. It is unlikely pilgrims will run into the big man himself "in the bathroom" though, as he will enjoy special provisions, according to Talbot. The project manager from Seven ... Read full entry

World Youth Day: one hour parking only
Posted by John Lampard on Monday, 19 May, 2008 to the comment subset
Signs like this have started springing up around the local streets, in the vicinity of Randwick Racecourse, in recent days. I know Pope Benedict XVI needs to park the Popemobile somewhere when he arrives here for World Youth Day, but in reality the so called "special event parking areas" strike me as being futile. First up local residents and ... Read full entry

The T L Baillieu Handicap at Randwick
Posted by John Lampard on Wednesday, 16 April, 2008 to the comment subset
At about 11:30 last night MySweetHeartTheFlirt suggested we spend today at the Randwick races. I looked at my 400 unread RSS articles, the growing pile of unanswered emails that required attention, an alarmingly long task list, and shook my head. "But there'll be a hot-spot you can connect to," she countered. I was therefore almost resigned to a day of trying to balance a laptop on my knees, while ... Read full entry
