Tomorrow, Saturday 7 June, marks the first anniversary of disassociated's migration to the WordPress CMS. It's been quite a ride, which incredibly, almost saw disassociated behave like a blog (though I still prefer to call it a website) for a time. Three posts made (thanks Kurt :) the front page of Digg (subsequently melting down disassociated's erstwhile web server), there was a ... Read full entry

Useful WordPress Timestamp tip
Posted by John Lampard on Friday, 16 May, 2008 to the comment subset
When drafting posts, especially those you are working on over a period of days, using the timestamp feature, to set a future date and time for the post to publish, can make a handy hedge against accidental posting. Any future date is fine, as there's nothing worse than clicking the "publish" button when you meant to click the "save" button, and posting what is a work-in-progress draft instead. These sorts of ... Read full entry

Thesis Theme for WordPress, by Chris Pearson. If I ever opt for a three column, magazine style, layout at disassociated it will look a little like the Thesis Theme. Lovely work :)

New admin UI on WordPress.com, 2.5.1, and 2.6 This might be the time for WP users, still kicking up a brouhaha over the controversial 2.5 release, to take another stress pill... WordPress 2.6 is on the way says WP lead developer, Ryan Boren. I and the other WP devs will be focusing on fixing bugs for 2.5.1 and planning 2.6 features. After the lengthy 2.5 cycle, we'll aim for ... Read full entry

Wordpress 2.5 Sneak Peek Forget Moveable Type, the latest release of WordPress, WP 2.5, will feature the design genius of the Happy Cog Studios crew. For the past few months, we've been working with our friends at Happy Cog - Jeffrey Zeldman, Jason Santa Maria, and Liz Danzico - to redesign WordPress from the ground-up. Blog Fight! WordPress and Movable Type Square Off
Posted by John Lampard on Monday, 17 March, 2008 to the blogs subset
Blog Fight! WordPress and Movable Type Square Off Missed this somehow. A molehill that became a mountain somehow. Not the intention, just the way it turned out I guess. It's the bloggers equivalent of the Mac vs. Windows flamewar - WordPress vs. Movable Type. The controversy kicked off earlier this week when Six Apart's (Movable Type's parent company) Anil Dash posted a note suggesting that WordPress users consider ... Read full entry

WordPress 2.5 - MIA?
Posted by John Lampard on Tuesday, 11 March, 2008 to the disassociated subset
According to one of my sources, an upgrade of the fine WordPress CMS was due for release on March 10. March 10 has pretty much passed on all points of the globe by now, and so far Wordpress 2.5 remains elusive... Oh well. I had been working on a small tweak to disassociated (just a few changes here and there) which I was going to roll out when I ... Read full entry

What Every Blogger Needs to Know About Categories
Posted by John Lampard on Thursday, 28 February, 2008 to the blogs subset
What Every Blogger Needs to Know About Categories Categories are definitely something I need to sort out here, but then again disassociated's entire under-carriage needs a bit of a tweak. Because of the way they are misused all over the Web, categories have grown to become something that we regard in a purely user-centric light. We think of them as navigational tools and guides for users, but in reality, categories are ... Read full entry

WordPress 2.3.3
Posted by John Lampard on Tuesday, 5 February, 2008 to the technology subset
WordPress 2.3.3 I had pencilled in March 24 was the next big, or milestone, day for Wordpress users, but another interim WP upgrade has been issued today. WordPress 2.3.3 is an urgent security release. A flaw was found in our XML-RPC implementation such that a specially crafted request would allow any valid user to edit posts of any other user on that blog. In addition to fixing this security ...
