V Festival Sydney red ink and photos

Posted by John Lampard on Monday, 31 March, 2008 to the events subset

Despite occupying at least a quarter of Centennial Park (far more space than the recent Good Vibrations and Jack Johnson events), and having two stages, the V Festival, which took place in Sydney last Saturday still lost money, according to Virgin boss, Richard Branson. Responding to questions about the festival's financial losses last year Branson said: "We've now gotten bigger this year - we're gonna lose ... Read full entry

V Festival, Centennial Park

Posted by John Lampard on Sunday, 23 March, 2008 to the music subset

The Sydney leg of the V Festival is the next music event to take place in Centennial Park, this Saturday, 29 March. The Smashing Pumpkins and Duran Duran are co-headlining (an unlikely pairing?), while Queens Of The Stone Age, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Presets, and Brazilian band CSS, form part of the extensive lineup. This is bound to please the ... Read full entry

The Jack Johnson reverberating concert

Posted by John Lampard on Monday, 17 March, 2008 to the comment subset

The Jack Johnson concert, held in Sydney's Centennial Park last Saturday, was judging by the cheering we could hear almost two kilometres away in Randwick, an unqualified success. At least so far as Jack Johnson and his fans were concerned. Not so enthralled were local residents who are apparently growing ever more irate by both the increasing frequency at which outdoor concerts are held in the park, and the ... Read full entry

Jack Johnson in Centennial Park

Posted by John Lampard on Wednesday, 12 March, 2008 to the music subset

I ought to start compiling a list of vantage points where music lovers can, for free, catch the best of the concerts and music festivals that take place around the eastern suburbs of Sydney. In the last couple of weeks the area has played host to Good Vibrations in Centennial Park, and the Future Music Festival at Royal Randwick Racecourse. This Saturday, 15 March, Jack Johnson performs ... Read full entry

Good Vibrations 2008 Update

Posted by John Lampard on Sunday, 17 February, 2008 to the events subset

The hoped for tickets for Good Vibrations didn't pan out in the end, but we still wondered over to the Good Vibes site yesterday afternoon in Centennial Park anyway. A few people have posted photos of the event here and here, plus the Sydney Morning Herald. There was also a very visible police presence at the festival...

Good Vibrations 2008

Posted by John Lampard on Friday, 15 February, 2008 to the music subset

Good Vibrations Sydney is on in Centennial Park, tomorrow, Saturday 16 February. Acts, out of the long list of those playing, include Thievery Corporation, Katalyst, and Cypress Hill. Anyone have a couple of spare tickets for Saturday by any chance?

Double Folly

Posted by John Lampard on Friday, 21 January, 2005 to the comment subset

There are two “follies” in Sydney’s Centennial Park, I posted some pictures of one of them a few weeks ago. Here is a close up of the pillar of one the structures.I’m assuming these "structures" are, as I said before, variations of the English ... Read full entry

Erroll’s folly

Posted by John Lampard on Saturday, 1 January, 2005 to the comment subset

I don’t know who Erroll Bottrell is, but he has carved his name into eternity... on the base of a statue in Sydney’s Centennial Park. This statue though is a rather odd kind of ornament all up. It sits on top of what might be a ten metre high pseudo classic Greek column, making it rather difficult to ... Read full entry
